São Paulo April 19, 2010
During the first quarter of 2010 brazilian exports of pepper amounted a total of 6,911 mt, against 8,543 mt exported in 2009, a significant drop of almost 20%.
Despite such strong fall in quantity the rise in average fob price allowed the value to be the same of the last year : U$D 20,155 K against U$D 20,155 K in 2009.
As usual USA was the main destination with 3,127 mt. Mexico and Argentina, traditional markets for brazilian pepper were also important destinations.
January and mostly February ( 2,063 mt X 3,348 mt) were the month when the export decreased while March showed a recovery with 2,343 mt this year aginst 2,385 in 2009.
As it was reported previously, Brazilian crop is expected to suffer a considerable drop this year due to adverse climate conditions, therefore prices in Brazil are steady and no chage in the trend has been sensed for the time being, despite an aparent weakness in the world market.
